Current Projects

The Southall Champions Fund has granted funding for the following 2014 projects.

Wolf Fields Sensory Garden (A Rocha UK)

Working with primary schools to clean up and restore Wolf Fields Community Allotments for; community food growing, wildlife conservation, bee keeping, sensory garden and education.

Disability Support (P.E.S.T.S & Horn of Africa Disability and Elderly Association)

Play and stay support session for families with children with disabilities. The project requires sensory toys, communication & confidence training for the children and families, therapeutic activities and special needs yoga.  Additional outreach will be completed to reach a wider target audience.

Active Southall (London Tigers & The Sharks)

Canoeing, dance, aerobics, walks and other activities at Spikes Bridge.

Healthy Eating (Pre-school Learning Alliance Ealing & Kays Cookery School)

Workshop sessions with families in Southall to promote healthy eating, sugar reduction, increasing physical exercise and the importance of vitamin supplements.

Reading School (Voice of Dalit International)

A parent support group for the currently running after school reading club. The support group will be a place for socialising, getting information, raising health awareness and developing volunteers to sustain the reading club and set up new ones.

Anti-Khat and Anti-Social Behaviour (GOYA & Somali Advice and Development Centre)
Integrated project to support users to stop taking Khat by raising awareness of the imminent ban and offering treatment and therapeutic support. To provide employment/education/business support to assist local Khat sellers with an alternative. Also aimed at supporting youth into Education, Training or Employment by providing outreach and mentoring.

Creative Arts (Krishen Kanadia and Focus Forth)

12 digital arts projects over 12 months, using Manor House as a physical base to attract visitors. Online presence and a programme of talks and performances, culminating in an exhibition at a newly developed gallery space. 25 young people will work on a creative learning arts project, gaining a Silver or Gold Arts Award, with a celebration event showcasing the works in Autumn.

Being Proud, Being Green (Transition Southall & Helplink)

A series of awareness events, workshops, and materials in order to encourage people to think and act more sustainably, work together as a community, and raise pride levels. There will be a launch of Southall Transition at the end of 2014.

Southall Loud and Proud Community Events (Individual, Pungra & UWL/W5)

Community events along with Pungra dance sessions.

Garden Project (St Johns Church)

Transforming the corner of Western Road and King’s Street into a community space whilst delivering gardening and landscaping activities to NEET and hard to reach groups.
